According to human rights activists in Iran Mahdieh golroo, an active member of The Right to Education Council and Student Activist was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months of imprisonment. According to the report Golru’s court session was held on Sunday, April 4th, 2010, in Revolutionary Court Branch 26 by Judge Pirabbassi. Mahdieh had to personally defend her rights in court since her lawyer was not permitted to appear in the court.

According to reports, Judge Pirabbassi, had set a bail for her release at 700 million Tomans (about $700,000) after her arrest on 3rd December 2009. Her family lacked the resources to provide such a  collateral for bail.

According to Vahid La’li Pour, Mahdieh’s husband, Mr. Raissian with a power of attorney from her family, is trying to lower the bail amount. He has been prevented to meet with Mahdieh to get her own consent for representing her therefore her family had to provide a power of attorney which is apparently not enough to represent the prisoner in court.

Mahdieh Golroo was a student of Allameh University and member of The Right to Education Council when she was banned from education in 2008. She was arrested on December 3 for the second time with her husband at their home.  She was also arrested a year before at Allameh University and taken to Evin prison for participating in a four day sit-in to protest the suspension of her education.
