The young woman, married at the age of 15, had been arrested along with her month-old infant on the road to Sistan & Baluchistan Province in south-eastern Iran and transferred to a prison in Mashhad on the charge of carrying narcotics.

Amnesty International has urged the Iranian judiciary to quash a death sentence against a 22-year-old woman accused of murdering her husband, whom she said had repeatedly abused her.
Zeinab Sekaanvand was arrested in February 2012 and convicted of her husband’s murder after what Amnesty called a “grossly unfair trial”. She faces execution by hanging as soon as 13 October.

In an interview with the state-run news agency ILNA on Saturday October 8, Mousavi Chalak said: “one of the issues which has become more evident during the past few years is that there are people who are forced to work on the streets to make a living, among which are beggars and street children.”

Imprisoned newspaper columnist Afarin Chitsaz urgently needs a knee operation, but the authorities have refused to allow her to be transferred to a hospital, according to her lawyer.
“She has a meniscus tear in her left knee and the doctors have said it needs to be operated on,” Mohammad Moghimi told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran. “During her last medical leave, her right knee was operated on and now the same is needed for her left knee. She’s experiencing a lot of pain, but so far they haven’t transferred her to the hospital to get the operation.”
