While 160 countries across the world have either abolished the Death Penalty or at least called a moratorium on its use, the clerical regime ruling Iran remains among the world’s most brutal.
On the eve of October 10 which marks the World Day against the Death Penalty, a number of death row prisoners all over Iran announced the following statement:
– While 176 prisoners were executed during the first half of 2018
The Iranian authorities have arrested at least 150 truck drivers in various provinces for participating in a nationwide strike, which has been ongoing for days in protest against the low and unpaid wages, the high cost of parts, and rising costs in the context of a deteriorating economic situation nationally.
According to the The Razavi Khorasan judiciary, a man was publicly flogged in the city of Nishabur on September 26. Charged with narcotics and robbery, he faced 74 lashes in the Zabarkhan district. The victim was identified as A.T, son of Ismael.
Critically ill prisoner of conscience and human rights defender Arash Sadeghi, was returned back to prison only three days after a surgery and despite his further need of special medical care.
In a conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, dignitaries, and politicians reiterated the need to investigate the execution of thousands of Iranian political prisoners in 1988 and to bring the perpetrators, many of whom continue to hold positions of power in the Iranian regime, to account.
Six members of Iran’s Baha’i community were arrested by the Intelligence Ministry agents in the city of Shiraz, Iran.
Soudabeh Haghighat, Navid Bazmandegan, Bahareh Ghaderi, Elaheh Samizadeh, Ehsan Mahboub Rahvafa and Noura Pourmoradian, Six members of Iran’s Baha’i community were arrested on 15 and 16 September.
Following the criminal execution of three Iranian Baluchis in Zahedan Central Prison in southeast Iran and the execution of three Kurdish political prisoners in Rajai Shahr Prison west of Tehran, a number of inmates in Zahedan Central Prison wrote an open-letter condemning these crimes.
Mohammad and Ismael Shahbakhsh, and Hayatollah Nutizehi were the three Iranian Baluchis sent to the gallows while Loghman and Zaniar Moradi, along with Ramin Hossein Panahi, were executed on 8 September.
Iranian Kurdish shopkeepers began strike to protest the executions of Kurdish activists and the bombing of opposition parties in Koya in the neighbouring Kurdistan Region on Wednesday.
